Zubair was born in a single-room haveli on Mohni Road inside Lahore’s Walled City. The area, famous for akharas, echoed with the sound of pehlwani training every dawn. His father, Aslam Pehelwan, was already a national-level heavyweight, so Zubair’s cradle was literally the sandpit of an akhara.
