Pakistan and Bahrain have agreed to deepen collaboration across political, economic, defence, and cultural spheres.
This consensus was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa in Manama today.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations founded on shared faith, trust, and mutual respect.
He expressed gratitude to the King for Bahrain’s continued support, particularly highlighting the establishment of the King Hamad University for Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences in Islamabad, which was inaugurated in September this year.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the recent high-level engagements between the two nations and thanked Bahrain for standing with Pakistan following the recent terrorist attacks.
On economic cooperation, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s intention to boost trade and investment ties. He noted that bilateral trade is expected to expand following the Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement, now in its final stages. He invited Bahraini investors to explore diverse opportunities through the Special Investment Facilitation Council, including in food security, IT, construction, mining, tourism, and healthcare.
Both leaders reaffirmed their longstanding defence partnership and agreed to further enhance cooperation in areas such as training, logistics, manpower, and defence production.
They also discussed the situation in Gaza, underscoring the urgent need for lasting peace and stability for the Palestinian people who have endured decades of suffering.
King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa shared with the Prime Minister that Bahrain once had the honor of being represented at a legal forum by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, noting that Jinnah served as Bahrain’s lawyer for many years.
During the meeting, the King bestowed upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif the prestigious Order of Bahrain (First Class), the highest award conferred by the Kingdom upon heads of state and government.
